I don’t know about you, but I have enough of my own problems that I can’t help thinking about them. I’ve got a huge list of them, and I am constantly trying to figure them out. But I also can’t help thinking about and talking about my problems and people who I love and respect. It has nothing to do with the issue itself, but the way it affects me.
I recently read a book about the effects of social isolation on how an individual thinks and feels. The author of the book, Robert Spitzer, suggested that the brain works in a way that we feel like we are constantly in touch with our inner self, but our minds are not really there. We can only think about things that we are experiencing right now. To paraphrase, our minds are always working, but we only think about things that are currently happening at the moment.
I can agree with Spitzer that the brain doesn’t function in a way that is a constant stream of information. It is a constant stream of impulses and reactions and a constant stream of thoughts. So, in this book I thought I would share some quotes from my own life to illustrate the point. Here are some (very) brief, but representative quotes from my life.

I think Kotter is a great guy, and I also think he is one of the best educators in the world. I also think he is one of the most honest people out there. In his book, The Power of Now, he says that you should give yourself permission to have a problem so you can get better at fixing it. It seems like the perfect quote for me.
