The fuel to use to get the shuttle off the pad will be a lot more powerful than it needs to be to burn, and you will need more power to get the shuttle off the pad than the shuttle needs to be launched.
The shuttle’s solid-fuel engines are able to go supersonic at around 30,000 mph. The liquid-fuel engines, on the other hand, use a lot more power to get the shuttle off the pad.
