To me, the act of sitting still. To me, it’s a state of mind that makes me feel more relaxed. When I’m out of the house, I find it easier to be in the moment. I tend to become more present in my life.
Well then, that’s a good thing. But the problem is, when we live in the moment, we don’t really have an advantage over people who don’t. There’s a lot of research out there about the benefits of being present, but as a rule, most people don’t do it nearly enough. So if you want to have a good life, you have to make a conscious effort to be in the moment, whether you realize it or not.
The problem is that we rarely realize these benefits. So while the benefits of being present seem obvious, we often take them for granted. Some of the reasons why we’re often in the moment are because we are unaware of our surroundings or are busy with other things, and the benefits of being in the moment are lost to us. The moment is a time to be, not a time to be alone. It is a time to be with yourself, and not with others.
There are a few reasons why the benefits of being in the moment might be lost to us. A couple of our main reasons are related to our attention span and how we use it. Because we are so busy with other things, we don’t have much time to be with ourselves. This means that we can’t be with ourselves for long periods of time.
We can become so distracted by the outside world that we forget to pay attention to ourselves and our thoughts. I can remember being around people I knew who were constantly talking about how busy they were, and how stressed they were. In the same way that we can forget to pay attention to ourselves, we can also forget ourselves. This is why we need a little space.
So we should all try to learn to have a time out. We should always have a break. Often called the “cognitive break,” this is an intentional period of time when we let our minds relax. This is one aspect of mindfulness that can be difficult for some to understand. For example, when I was a teenager I spent a lot of time watching TV and talking to friends about what was happening in the world.
It turns out that people who are highly intelligent and creative, who are in school or working on their careers, who don’t use their brains and don’t think too much (or at all) are a rare breed. It’s something that even very intelligent people who don’t have a lot of free time, often find it hard to do. It’s not simply that they don’t have the time to pay attention to themselves.
So why are there so few people who do well in school or have a full-time job who can talk about what they actually do and think? Well, I suppose the reason is that most people spend too much time on their phones or computers, and are therefore unable to pay attention to what they are doing. Most people have a “lazy” or “busy” brain, and thus are unable to listen to interesting conversations with their coworkers, or even their family members.
The point is, most people just can’t. Just like you can’t play well to yourself at a bar. Just like you can’t play well at a piano if you are too busy texting on your phone, or too distracted by your laptop. The solution is to spend more time on the things you are good at.
I am not a big fan of lounge acts because they tend to be very passive. But there is a solution to this that might be helpful to you. In the same way that you don’t play really well on your piano if you are too busy texting on your phone, or too distracted by your laptop, you can’t really play well if you are too busy lying on your couch in front of the TV watching a show. This is where you need to engage with your coworkers and family members.
