I’m going to be honest here. I make a lot of food, but I don’t buy a ton of it. My main source of food is probably the fresh produce or meat I can find at my area farmer’s market. That being said, I don’t have enough to make all the delicious, healthy meals I crave so when I do, it’s usually pretty quick.
The problem is that we live in a food-obsessed society. For most of us, eating is very instinctual, and that instinct is to be a little bit hungry. It may take some time to learn to like the taste of food that our bodies crave, so we need to work on that. When you add the fact that most of the food we eat is processed and processed food is extremely filling, we end up eating way too much. That’s not necessarily a bad thing either.
We all know that when we eat too much, our blood sugar increases, which leads to our body trying to give us energy. What happens is that our bodies are not able to tell the difference between food that is fresh and food that has been sitting in a fridge for a long time. So when we eat something that our bodies crave, our brains get confused and start telling our bodies that we need more.
This is exactly what happened to Colt. He ate a bunch of junk food and then realized he needed to eat something that felt good to him, and so he ate a bunch of chicken nuggets, pasta, chicken curry, and then a handful of almonds and then some fruit. All of which were very good things for him.
This is a good time to use that phrase as a reminder to keep your brain busy.
